The Wingman

March 12th 2008 23:08
Picture this scenario: two guys walk into a bar and one of them spots his 'target' for the evening. However, she's with a friend, or group of friends, and it's daunting for the guy to approach the group alone. So, his other friend plays 'wingman' - that is, talking to the less attractive women of the group whilst allowing his friend to work his seduction magic on the target of his choice.

Don't make your wingman status too obvious!

The concept of a wingman is not a new one - many people attribute its rise in popularity to the 1986 film Top Gun, starring Tom Cruise. The wingman is there to support his mate, and do whatever it takes to allow his friend to pick up. This includes making comments that make his friend seem more attractive, making sure his friend doesn't get too drunk, and so on. Many men have found success in dating through utilising a friend as wingman.

In fact, now there are wingwomen - valuable in situations where the man is too shy to approach a group of girls. The wingwoman approaches the girls and strikes up a conversation, during which time the girls' guard will be down because they're not getting hit on. The wingwoman begins to talk about a great guy friend she has, who is waiting in the wings until the time is ready for the guy to make his move.

Using a wingman or wingwoman will make your job of picking up girls much easier, so why not give it a try this weekend? Like all things, it takes practice, but the more you do it, the better you'll get at it. Just be aware that many women are aware of the concept, so don't make your wingman moves too obvious or you'll get caught out. Best of luck to you!
