The REAL Alpha Male
April 16th 2008 05:49
I know a man who is the true epitome of the Alpha Male. He's confident, well-liked, athletic and kind-natured to boot. He has a great job, and (of course) an equally great Alpha Female girlfriend. He doesn't touch drugs and rarely gets on the piss, but enjoys an active social life nonetheless.
What really makes him stand out from other men as an Alpha Male, however, is his attitude. He takes everything that happens to him in his stride, and his confidence doesn't waver (at least, this is what I can tell from his actions). He never has a bad word to say about anyone, and his sense of humour is top-notch - he's developed great comedic timing too.
Despite all this, I've only ever viewed him as a friend. He's probably out of my league - being that I am a Beta Female - but I just don't feel attraction for him. This goes to show that regardless of how fantastic you are, you won't be attractive to everyone - it's impossible, because every single person has different tastes and values. I value him highly as a friend, but that's it.
So why, you ask, would I write a post about him? Because there may be people out there who are wondering how to become an Alpha Male themselves. Alphas aren't born, they're made; and it's not the cards that they're dealt with that defines them but the choices they make. This particular man CHOSE to make his career a priority. He CHOSE to become an accomplished athlete. He CHOSE to become a funny man, and so on. And not only did he make these choices, but he followed through on them to the best of his (considerable) ability. He's a nice guy, but he's not a pushover; he's assertive without being loud and obnoxious. But most important of all is the air of quiet confidence that he exudes. People respect him because of it, and girls are attracted to him, not because of his looks (which are reasonable, though not spectacular) but his attitude. And it's this that makes him a people-magnet.
While I don't recommend changing your entire personality - women usually sense falseness in behaviour - it is worth taking the elements of the Alpha Male into consideration. Would you be happier if you had more confidence? If so, gradually working it into your public persona is the way to go. Faking Alpha qualities will only get you so far; you have to actually BECOME an Alpha over time and with lots of practice. An Alpha life is a good life - why not make it yours?
