The Friend Zone

March 26th 2008 00:16
According to Internet folklore, if you're in the friend zone - that is, are "just friends" with a woman - then you'll never get the chance to be with her, as she'll only ever view you as a buddy. My most recent experience proves that there can be exceptions to this rule. Just last weekend I hooked up with a guy I'd been friends with for years, and - though I don't want to speak too soon - it looks to be the start of a great relationship. I have no issues with the friends-to-lovers crossover, in fact I feel so comfortable around him for this very reason.

Friendship first?

What I'm interested to know is, were you friends with your partner before you hooked up, or did you "date" each other from the very beginning? And do you think the best relationships are the ones based on friendship? Or are you a firm believer that you should never be friends with the person you're attracted to?

certainly, friends can fall in love - it's possible. I think a lot of guys count on this, as it's easier to be a friend than make yourself vulnerable by asking a woman out.

On the other hand, it's quite easy to get stuck in that zone, from both sides, where neither one is interested in pursuing things.

The ideal is to be friends, but not good friends, I think. Just on friendly terms, so that it's natural to move into intimacy.

Friends first, lovers second, unless of course you're both blitzed out of your minds JW, and then it won't be a viable factor. I've always understood it this way; a stiff plug and a willing receptacle have no conscience or reason to dress. Raven

Cibuuano, yeah I agree with you completetely - be friendly, but not friends (e.g. it's bad if you're her shoulder to cry on...). Makes sense to me.

Raven, I don't get high often but when I do I get REALLY high. Everything in moderation I suppose.
