The Art of Seduction

January 15th 2008 10:58
The seduction of a woman is truly an art form, but like anything else in life, it’s a skill that can be learned. Whether you want to increase the number of women you’re picking up, or you have one special girl in mind, reading up on the topic will help you to some extent, but ultimately you need to get out there and practice. Dating is a numbers game and unless you have Brad Pitt’s looks or bank balance, there’s no way of seducing every woman you want, because some simply won’t respond. Seduction is a two-way street, and if the woman you’ve been eyeing off isn’t interested, there’s not much you can do to help the situation aside from remaining a challenge to her.

But if she IS interested? Well, that’s where the fun begins! Start off by making eye contact with her from across the room. So-called ‘love experts’ say that if she makes eye contact with you, looks down, then looks back at you coyly, she’s definitely keen to get to know you better and you should hot-foot it on over there for a conversation. All you need to say is hello, then judge from her response just how interested she is. If, however, she looks at you then looks away (as opposed to looking down) then she’s not a good target for seduction (tonight) as your appearance has not interested her. This is why appearance is so important – you need to look your best at all times when you’re out on the town, as women do judge on appearance, though perhaps not as much as men do.

Once you’ve started the conversation, take it up a notch by flirting a little. Don’t be obvious about it as she may not have decided what she wants with you – just tease her if you can, crack a joke or two, and engage in flirty banter with her. If she’s not responding at all by this stage, you should move on to another target – just make sure you’re not misreading her signals! Some women are shy and not as willing to have a flirty conversation straight away, so give her time before you decide she’s not the one for tonight.

If you can, get closer to her, and pay her a sincere (but not creepy) compliment. This can be anything from her dress to her hair to her shoes, as long as it’s sincere and doesn’t sound like a ‘line’ you roll out to use on all potential pick-ups. If she smiles and thanks you, all the while looking into your eyes, then it’s time to take a risk and kiss her (see my ‘Getting Physical’ post). Remember, nothing ventured, nothing gained – at some stage, someone is going to have to take the risk, and being that you’re the man – well, that someone will be you. Only very ballsy women take a chance on kissing the guy first, and if you get one of these, well, lucky you! Most, however, will wait for you to make the move.

And remember, if you have no luck seducing her tonight, it could be entirely for her own reasons – maybe she had a bad day and just isn’t in the mood for your sexy wiles. You can always try again in the future, so don’t count every rejection as a complete write-off. Aussie women like persistence!

When it comes to the art of seduction, there are some ‘love experts’ you should look up, and others you shouldn’t because their advice is a load of bullshit (looking at Dr Love on the askmen.com website here). But seriously, if you haven’t heard of David DeAngelo yet, then I recommend you Google him and see what he has to say. As a woman I find his advice to be spot on, albeit a little cheesy and very American. The more you can learn about seduction whilst sitting at your computer, the more information you’ll have to fall back on when it comes to putting the seduction into practice. Just make sure you do it, because no-one else is going to do it for you.

You're only doomed if you think you are Raven! Remember that things are different in the merry old land of Oz than they are in beautiful Alaska - the people, the values, the seduction techniques... the list goes on. I have a sneaking suspicion that you'll be just fine.
