Doc Love, Mystery, David DeAngelo... who's got it right?
April 8th 2008 02:25
When it comes to learning the art of seduction, there are many 'teachers' out there that claim to have it right. Only THEIR methods work, and if you try to learn from another then you are losing out. It's all very commercial, of course, but there is still a lot that can be learnt. The question is, who has it right?
Let's start with Doc Love. His question-and-answer articles are featured weekly over at askmen.com. His basic philosophy is that dating is a numbers game, and you should never get hung up on one particular woman. For $99 you can buy 'The System' which has all of Doc Love's ideas in one package - invaluable information (as he puts it) on getting the woman to chase you, discerning her 'buying signals', deciphering Womanese and so on. All good ideas, but do they work? I'm not sure. Hopefully someone here on orble will let me know.
Then there's Mystery, who calls himself 'The World's Best Pickup Artist'. According to Wikipedia, 'The Mystery Method' - as it's called - teaches that "people have strong emotional reactions to others with significantly higher value. Men will have an emotional reaction in response to a very attractive women, while women will have an emotional reaction in response to men who display the qualities of the 'Tribe Leader'. This emotional reaction leads to an adrenaline rush, and to demonstrate abnormal behavior around the other person. An exceptionally attractive woman causes this reaction in the majority of men, so the method teaches that she will subconsciously believe that any male who appears emotionally nonreactive to her is of higher value than she, and she will become attracted to him." Sounds credible? Maybe.
Finally there's David DeAngelo, who I personally think is the best teacher of seduction of the three. His basic philosophy revolves around the concept of being a challenge - that is, increasing one's value in the eyes of one's target by making oneself a challenge to 'get'. According to his website, "David Deangelo's methods and techniques are based on human psychology and how women are genetically programmed (through evolution) to respond to attractive men." He outlines several ways that men can increase their attractiveness to women (including 'Cocky Comedy'), and teaches that women are primarily attracted to a man's behaviour, while men are attracted to a woman's appearance.
So who has it right? I believe that there are elements of all three pickup artists' repertoires that will work when it comes to seducing women, but some will be more effective than others. I find Doc Love's articles to be slightly outdated, and Mystery's Method to be rather sexist at times (not an angle that you want to be coming from if you want to impress the ladies!) David DeAngelo's advice is usually spot-on, but then, being a woman, I haven't purchased his materials so can't give a proper analysis of them.
So what experiences have you had with online pickup artistry methods? Are they credible or are they nothing more than a waste of money? Let me know orblers.

Any respectable PUA knowns to take the best of any teacher.
Personally I think Mystery has it game set and match.
The descriptions you've given are fairly inaccurate though.
David is a student of Ross Jeffries, who is famous for his hypnosis on women and using them as his tools.I am certainly not an advocate of their style.
While anyone who has met Mystery will know he is not exactly a stable and honest person, he is however, extremely wise in these ways, and his methods have been proven time and time again.
I like Mystery because he focus' on practical applications, like winning sets and conversation pieces etc.
Doc Love...no comment LOL
I'm long out of the PUA scene, but the true scholar will take what he needs from all.
Only a low life will resort to hypnosis techniques.

It's good to see Mystery's technique working for you. As for Doc Love, yeah well I had to include him, he's one of the originals
"the true scholar will take what he needs from all."
I think you just answered my question.

JW, isn't it ironic that we need a book , coach or counselor to explain how to fulfill a biological imperative because we aren't schooled in the art of personality.

And in the end, people always love you for being yourself. Now THAT'S ironic.

Obviously now I think that is the best way to go, but it certainly isn't the truth.
People are lacking personality. We focus so much on our careers and getting what we want, we have selfish and boring personalities.
But Journeywomen is right, PUA isn't about picking up a chick at the nightclub, its a pursuit of bettering ones self - to an extent.
Its a constant technique of refining, almost like a sports player watches his game and focus' on his weak spots.

David D is about attracting a woman to pick up, he's got stuff on working on the inner you, not much more beyond that as he admits he doesn't give relationship advice, and Mystery is all about pick-up as well.
And if you can read between the lines in their material, you'll see the last two have NO clue what it takes beyond the pick up. So who's best? Doc is!
