Do you believe in leagues?
May 24th 2008 02:25
Now I'm not talking sports leagues or leagues under the sea - I mean leagues of people. Do you believe that we were all created equal, or do you recognise that, to quote George Orwell, "some are more equal than others"? Personally I believe that there are different leagues of people, and I like to classify them as Alphas, Betas and so on, down to the Epsilons. To be called an Epsilon is the ultimate insult; if you've read Aldous Huxley's Brave New World then you'll know what I mean.
It then follows that when it comes to dating and relationships, both partners must be of more or less the same league, or else the relationship won't work, assuming that the attraction was even there to begin with. An Alpha male is not going to be interested in a Gamma female, simply because there are Alpha females he will be capable of attaining.
Think about it this way - ugly people, or unintelligent people, have the same chance of being in a relationship as beautiful, smart people, because there are many others who are in their same league. In fact, the lower the league, the more people that exist within it, so technically they should have a greater chance of hooking up than an Alpha person.
Personally, I consider myself a Beta Female - attractive but not stunning; intelligent but not unusually so; and capable but not hugely accomplished. Most of my friends fit into this category too, and I usually find myself dating Beta males (this is how I refer to them anyway).
So let me know Orblers - do you believe in leagues, and if so, which one are you in?

Damo, you make an excellent point. The slide from Alpha to Epsilon is not a pretty one.

Do you think that people that are considered an "untouchable" (IE VERY attractive, intelligent, fun to be around, etc.) make people nervous so they aren't asked out as much as an "average" person because people are intimidated or whatnot? That's what I've been told anyway, just curious as to your thoughts.

Sometimes, being an Alpha can work against you.
