Do you believe in leagues?

May 24th 2008 02:25
Now I'm not talking sports leagues or leagues under the sea - I mean leagues of people. Do you believe that we were all created equal, or do you recognise that, to quote George Orwell, "some are more equal than others"? Personally I believe that there are different leagues of people, and I like to classify them as Alphas, Betas and so on, down to the Epsilons. To be called an Epsilon is the ultimate insult; if you've read Aldous Huxley's Brave New World then you'll know what I mean.

Heidi Klum - an Alpha female

It then follows that when it comes to dating and relationships, both partners must be of more or less the same league, or else the relationship won't work, assuming that the attraction was even there to begin with. An Alpha male is not going to be interested in a Gamma female, simply because there are Alpha females he will be capable of attaining.

Think about it this way - ugly people, or unintelligent people, have the same chance of being in a relationship as beautiful, smart people, because there are many others who are in their same league. In fact, the lower the league, the more people that exist within it, so technically they should have a greater chance of hooking up than an Alpha person.

Personally, I consider myself a Beta Female - attractive but not stunning; intelligent but not unusually so; and capable but not hugely accomplished. Most of my friends fit into this category too, and I usually find myself dating Beta males (this is how I refer to them anyway).

So let me know Orblers - do you believe in leagues, and if so, which one are you in?

If I'm not an alpha male I don't believe in leagues.

i think opposites attract in looks and intelligence so nerds like to surround themselves with models and "hot" people often have the ugly reliable best friend

as for dating i have no idea, i dont even know anyone that goes on dates lol

Thanks for the comments guys. Morgan, I find that looks don't come into friendship, I have hot friends and fugly friends and I'm somewhere in between, but they most certainly do in relationships. As for intelligence, it has to be on par with both friends and partners - I find that I'm attracted to people of equal smarts to me, as our conversations flow really well. Dumb guys annoy me, genius guys intimidate me.

Yes people still go on dates, I went to dinner and a movie last night, was fun but I'm a lil hungover...

Screw all of that Alpha and Beta crap; be yourself. Most alphas are to much in love with themselves to be interesting. Half of their lives are staged and the other half is buried in work, alcohol, drugs and affairs JW, I am not in awe of any of them and neither should you be.

Every alpha will one day be an epsilon.
So why worry.
The ravages of age is a great equalizer.

Raven, I am in awe of Alphas, because a true Alpha avoids all that and rises above. The people you're referring to are Betas (and no I'm not gonna cut out the Greek crap, I like it!) Gorgeous pic btw.

Damo, you make an excellent point. The slide from Alpha to Epsilon is not a pretty one.

Unfortunately I think there are leagues in today's society.

Do you think that people that are considered an "untouchable" (IE VERY attractive, intelligent, fun to be around, etc.) make people nervous so they aren't asked out as much as an "average" person because people are intimidated or whatnot? That's what I've been told anyway, just curious as to your thoughts.

Whitney, yes intimidation does happen when someone is so obviously an Alpha, and yes I believe they would be asked out less often because of this. Mostly because people would automatically assume that they wouldn't stand a chance.

Sometimes, being an Alpha can work against you.

I believe in leagues, but I don't think they always matter in who you get with. A lot of people like to trade off in terms of qualities and/or consider some qualities that would be associated with a Beta or Epsilon--not that I totally know what those terms mean--more desirable than qualities associated with an Alpha. For example, a lot of very intelligent, successful, good-looking men are looking for doormats, so they seek out women are who are the exact opposite of them in terms of these qualities and degrade women who have similar qualities as they do. So then, maybe leagues are a little more individualistic than universal.
